In my opinion they have not been honest about their software development, they have used their position in the software world to force users into junk products, they hide updates and make it hard to manage the software.
I finally decided to get rid of every Adobe product I had earlier this year. I moved to onOne Photo RAW 2018 (on1 Photo) and it has worked well for me.
Future development is driven by suggestions from users and the suggestions with the most votes get included in the program. No hiding updates or keeping what is under development a secret. There is always a learning curve with software and I have finally found an image processor that I don't have to relearn every time the developer goes off on a tangent. Lightroom was always second best to Apple Aperture and it has not become any better.
Splitting the program in to Lightroom and Lightroom Classic is a recipe for the Lightroom Classic owners to get screwed just like the Stand-A-Lone Lightroom users did. My suggestion is to stop searching for updates that the continue to hide and bite the bullet. This appears to be a maintenance update for Lightroom CC.
